How To Make a Fresh Greenery Table Garland
As we head into a season of holidays and celebrations, I think it’s important to know how to quickly and easily set a beautiful table without a lot flower arranging or fuss. For me, the perfect way to accomplish that is to make a simple and easy garland of greenery as a table runner.
With just a few bunches of market greens or some foraged branches from the yard, you can create a beautiful table garland in just minutes.
For this garland, I used three types of greenery. 1) A eucalyptus with larger leaves called ‘“silver dollar” 2) A eucalyptus with more delicate leaves called “gunni” and 3) Some purple branches I foraged from our yard. To begin, I laid the stems of eucalyptus along the length of the table, starting at the ends and moving toward the center until the stems meet in the middle.
Once I have the greenery generally in place, I use small pieces of wired twine to tie the stems together along the length of the garland. I don’t go crazy with the twine, just five or six pieces to keep the stems secure and gathered together.
I wanted this garland to hang off of the ends of the table, so once I had the greenery secured on the table top, I began to wire additional pieces together to extend the garland to the floor.
Because this greenery was so fresh, I was able to easily bend the branches to have them easily flow of the ends of the table.
Once I had the eucalyptus in place, I began to add the darker stems to the garland. I laid them in place and quickly wired them to the other greenery.
I love the way the silver-green of the eucalyptus mixes with the burgundy of the darker branches to make a subtle, neutral fall look.
The final step was to adjust the branches in order to create a straight but natural look. I “braided” several of the eucalyptus stems across the garland to cover any exposed wire and to create a bit of height and depth.
I decided to use some pretty copper chargers to continue the fall flavor of this simple tablescape.
The drama of a garland spilling over the end of the table adds a beautiful look that is simple to achieve.
Some natural linen napkins, copper silverware and gold rimmed glasses complete the look.
If you’re short on time, but want an easy and beautiful natural greenery table garland, this is the easiest way to achieve that look.
One note: Depending on the type of greenery you use, the leaves may wilt, so this garland should be laid out no more than 4-6 hours before your event.
