How to Express Your Fall Decorating Style

|

Hi Friends! I hope you are enjoying the start of October and feeling bit of that cooler fall weather. Here in southern California, it is finally starting to feel a bit like autumn, in fact we are expecting some rain today, so I am curled up on the couch with my coffee, enjoying a lazy morning.

Today I wanted to talk to you guys about fall decorating and how to express YOUR style with just a few simple items.

Fall Decorating Styles

There are so many ways to add fall decor you your home, without having it completely overwhelm your existing style and look. In fact, I think there is nothing more beautiful than adding seasonal touches to your home that look like they fit in seamlessly with your decor.

This week I styled one room in my house, in three different ways, to show you all how, with a few easy changes, you can express your own fall decorating style.

SOFT AND ROMANTIC

Fall Decorating Styles

I would describe my home as rustic and elegant with a few vintage touches. Because the living room is one of the first spaces you see when you walk into our house, I want it to be a reflection of my style, regardless of the season. A soft, romantic look for fall fits in well with my overall style.

A fresh flower arrangement on the coffee table sets the stage for this fall decorating style. The subtle fall colors signal the season without being too overwhelming in the room.

On the table behind the couch, I used my beloved vintage suitcases, as a base for a cascade of white pumpkins. I also added a couple of baskets filled with fresh and faux greenery in soft fall tones.

I love the way the colors in this fall vignette, compliment the colors in the flowers as well as the pillows on the couch.

Speaking of pillows, there is no easier way to express your personal style than with throw pillows on a couch. Here I used a few fall favorites. The French linen center pillow stays on my couch year round, but when I added in these pretty seasonal “deer” pillows, the room suddenly takes on a new look. They are the perfect compliment to the soft, romantic fall style I wanted to achieve.

WARM AND RUSTIC

With just a few simple changes, I was able to completely change my fall decor to a warmer, rustic look.

The soft, romantic flowers were replaced with a copper bucket filled with mini white pumpkins and a sprig of faux olive branches.

The table behind the couch got a warm, fall decor makeover by replacing the white pumpkins with these copper beauties ,adding a few of my favorite lanterns, a bit of rustic wheat and splash of greenery.

I shared all of the details on how to make these copper pumpkins last week:

SIMPLE AND SUBTLE

Fall Decorating Styles

Okay, admittedly I am not always the most subtle when it comes to decor, but sometimes paring back is the perfect way to go for fall decorating.

Fall Decorating Styles

For this look, I used a simple, rustic dough bowl filled with white pumpkins on the coffee table. I love the way this says fall in the most subtle way. No striking orange pumpkins, just the suggestion of fall in a simple bowl.

I also simplified the fall decor on the table behind the couch. I didn’t use any pumpkins, and replaced the rustic lanterns with a couple of simple, black lanterns. Two raw wood candlesticks mimic the color of the dough bowl and a stack of black books on top of the vintage suitcases brings the color palette together.

For this look, I replaced all of the sofa pillows with these simple plaid pillows I recently purchased. I love the way they feel like fall without being too overt or overwhelming. It is pretty amazing how a change of pillows can completely change the style in a room!

Fall Decorating Styles

While this fall decor is subtle and simple, I still like my home to feel extra cozy this time of year. Throwing a chunky, knit blanket over the couch is the perfect way to add warmth, but still keep it clean and simple.
